Title: Low Testosterone Treatment

 

Low testosterone treatment has become a very common therapy for men over 40. Low testosterone treatment is usually indicated in men who's natural level of free testosterone falls below normal clinical levels and begin to exhibit low  testosterone symptoms. Men are advised to have their blood tested for free testosterone when they present low testosterone symptoms such as:

 

Lethargy

Apathy

Loss of muscle mass

Loss of libido

Erectile dysfunction

Accumulation of body fat

Depression

 

These low testosterone symptoms can be significantly improved with a low testosterone treatment that includes weekly injections of a medium length ester of testosterone, such as testosterone cypionate or testosterone enanthate.

 

While there is no cure for aging, low testosterone symptoms can be addressed with low testosterone treatment. In both cases, the aging male and the poor performing athlete, the most significant low testosterone symptom has to do with protein synthesis in muscle. This is the process by which the body turns dietary protein, in the presence of testosterone, into muscle. Muscle mass is critical, not only for athletes where strength is related to performance, but also in older men where muscle mass is vital in maintaining mobility, balance, posture and the production of body heat. Testosterone is the hormone which regulates muscle protein synthesis. In men with low testosterone, muscle protein synthesis is compromised, leading to low testosterone symptoms.

 

In an adult athlete, the synthesis of muscle protein is also related to how the muscles are being exercised. Beyond the ongoing maintenance and repair of existing muscle, Muscle  movement – exercise - is necessary for meaningful muscle development, based on the synthesis of protein.

 

In either case – repair or exercise - muscle will naturally break down via a process called "catabolism." The subsequent growth and repair of  damaged muscle is called "anabolism."  testosterone is referred to as an “anabolic steroid” because of its effect on building muscle. Protein synthesis in muscle is the anabolic  process by which the body uses ingested protein for the growth and repair of muscle. If you take in more fat than the body uses you will store body fat. By the same token – very generally -  when the body catabolizes less protein than it takes in, your muscles will grow.

 

Older athletes are affected by both anabolic and catabolic  mechanisms. It's not the body's response to the increased consumption of protein after exercise that changes with age, it's the amount of testosterone present to instigate the process that changes. In order to maintain muscle protein synthesis, the body has to have adequate testosterone.  Without it, muscle mass will suffer The only remedy to help with this natural phenomenon of age is a low testosterone treatment.
